According to the Epstein book, a sentence is vague if there are so many ways to understand it that we can't settle on one of those without the speaker making it clearer.
Earlier today, my friends and I went to the mall and while we were walking around, we saw a group of females walking towards and right when they passed us by , one of my friend said, "Damn, that girl is hot."
What my friend said is vague because my other friends and I didn't know which girl he was talkin about because there were five of them, until we asked him which girl was he talkin about. It is vague because there were five girls and what my friend said was too broad. He didn't exactly point out which girl he was talking about.
Another vague is the part when my friend said hot. Hot could be possibly mean spicy. It could also mean as having a high temperature. But, what my friend really meant is that the girl is attractive.
Hahah it's funny that you used the example "hot" whether being how attractice someone is or how high temperature is. Both meanings are completely opposite and mean completely different things. In slang nowadays, a lot of common words are used in a different way. An example is saying "Stupid", stupid means unintelligent but the generation today say expressions such as "That was stupid crazy" as in "That was really crazy". Slang nowadays, is nonsense. Haha

LOL I was going to use the word bad instead of hot since my friends and I use it a lot when describe a girl that she is attractive, but I didn't feel like explaining and get to too much details about it so I just used the word hot to make it a little simpler. About the slangs, it is non sense at times. Just like when people say, "That car is dumb clean." Like what in the hell did you just say? LOL When the person really meant that the car is really nice.
ReplyDeleteHey! My post was similar to yours about "hot" girls! I can sort of see the correlation of the word hot to high temperature and extremely attractive girl. When someone sees an attractive girl, sometimes, their heart beats faster leading to more pumps of blood. When they are pumping a lot of blood, their temperature rises. Same goes to blushing; your face turns "hot". :p
ReplyDeleteAlso, I can see why you didn't know which hot girl he was talking about because everyone have a different type of hot girls? For example, your friend thinks that girl is attractive, but for you, you don't think she is attractive.. Hahahahaha...
haha these comments made me laugh and also your post. I liked how you used an example of a girl in the "mall" with your friends. You also made it clear that "hot" is a vague word because it could be temperature hot, spicy hot, or even what Tyrone said, when someone blushes you get hot.(this made me laugh) But you used a good example since this incident happens every often, and usually there are plenty of girls in the mall so it's hard to understand which girls your friends are referring to. Anyways nice post haha

We all have different types when it comes to girls. One is into African-American women, another is into Asian women just like me but only certain Asians for me though lol, others are into Latinas, and most of them just like girls with big butts and they cannot lie. lol

I have never blogged in my life before until we were told to sign up for one for the class. lol And I've been on this blog site almost everyday/night checking on everyone's post in our section so I reply on everyone who comment on mines. ReplyDeleteHey. I thought your blog was pretty funny with the girls in the mall because it's so common. You know lots of people go to the mall just to check people out. It is funny because sometimes when I am with my friends at the mall and we see a group of guys and maybe one of them is cute. And one of my friends say damn he's fine. But all you see are the ugly guys surrounding the good looking one, and you thinking to yourself damn you trippin lol. Also it is true that the word "hot" is vague. It could attractive, spicy, or be a temperature.
